Presently it irritated [him] that Boy had her, despite the fact that he doesnt need her yet he needs to just discover somebody to cherish his deformed body. The storyteller accepted that Leola truly adored him yet that Boy caused her to accept in an unexpected way. With this reality in the rear of his had he was harsh about the entire business in spite of the fact that he didnt even need her back. The last section discusses the storyteller needing what he had last when Diana left him since he regularly longed for her. The connection among Leola and Boy has renounced the internal sentiments in the storytellers heart, making him need someone to cherish and basically become an ordinary individual once more; tolerating what his identity was and what has befallen him. The storyteller discusses this so in detail on the grounds that later on in the entry he makes reference to that Leola had once thought she cherished him, which means the storyteller could be the fortunate man not Boy. It additionally hints that the storyteller needs to locate some other young lady like Leola, so he can impart to her what he had with Diana. This concentrate closes with a purposeful anecdote, the storyteller understands that what Boy has he doesnt truly need yet he needs a young lady to adore and that cherishes him. He realized Diana would attempt to make him something he was not however that didn't stop [him], regularly and agonizingly, Hahn 5 from needing her. He dismisses the way that he needs what Boy has from the start yet what he truly needs is a young lady like Leola or Diana. This entry can be very misleading from the start sight, it appears as though it is about the storyteller having a battle among himself and contrasting himself with Boy who appears to have everything except for he doesnt need any of it. However underneath this implication it very well may be seen that the storyteller truly needs a young lady and somebody to cherish him. He additionally doesnt think Boy has earned all that he has since he hasnt been deformed like the storyteller has. I think this is an amazing section, obviously I cannot identify with it since I dont know how it feels to be so deformed. However I do know how it feels to cherish somebody and be with the person in question constantly and afterward out of nowhere lose them. This was the most noticeably terrible inclination I have ever had, and that feeling joined with a distorted body must be alarming. Additionally observing Boy who hasnt been harmed in the war and has a lady like the storyteller needs, utilizing her just as an object of desire. I accept the storyteller couldnt experience more torment at second. He has encountered torment, desire and jealousy as completely as anybody will ever encounter these sentiments.

Address Admissions Limit - UGA Undergraduate Admissions
The Myth of the HS/County/City/Address Admissions Limit - UGA Undergraduate Admissions The Myth of the HS/County/City/Address Admissions Limit We are just about a week out from our EA deadline (or as I say, 4 business days), and we are almost finished with getting all of the mail opened, scanned and into the applicants files. This morning I personally scanned in about 1,000 sheets of paper, all from Counselor Evaluations, and after every sheet I thought about how much better life would be if all schools used our online forms. The online forms get into a students file generally overnight, do not have to be handled, scanned, or keyed in, and they even save your schools in postage! But enough griping, onto the real reason for my post. I want to thank all of you who responded to our survey about the most popular myths (and to tell all of you who did not respond to answer our future surveys!), as this helps us understand the mindsets in the schools and communities with which we work. The most popular myth was Only a certain number of students can be admitted from my school/county/city, etc., with 41% of the vote! I always laugh when I hear this myth, because if you could see our office before decisions are sent out (both EA and RD), you would see a lot of last-minute file reading, number-crunching, and controlled chaos. Truthfully, we have no time, energy or manpower to figure out how many students from X location we should admit. We make decisions based upon an individual review of the applicant in comparison with the rest of the applicant pool. Even if we wanted to (and we do not!), we would not be able to actually make the kind of decisions this myth suggests. Patrick Winter, a co-worker of mine and numbers-junkie, has done some amusing and unusual analysis of our freshman class from last year, with a look at all of the odd data that can be pulled out from this groups information. For instance, in the group of admitted students from last year, the most popular name for females was Sarah, and the the most popular for males was William. In addition, The astrological signs of Taurus, Gemini, Leo and Virgo were each 9% of the freshman class this year, while Capricorns were only 7% of the class. Does this mean that we dislike people not named Sarah or William? Do parents talk at ballgames and say Well you know, the reason UGA did not admit my son was because they already had their limit of Capricorns. Of course not! But every year, we hear the wild stories about how we did not admit a student because of their city/county/zip code/school/blood type. Just remember, ignore unsolicited admissions advice, work hard, read, and do your best (okay, the last three were just thrown in there because I couldnt think of anything else). Have a great day!

What drives Tom Ripleys campaign to change his life - Literature Essay Samples
The Talented Mr Ripley, written by Patricia Highsmith in 1955 is a psychological thriller that follows Tom Ripley, an antihero who is given an opportunity to change his life, In the novel, Highsmith clearly accentuates one of the main motivators of Ripley, as the chase for money, possessions and items of materialistic values that he didnââ¬â¢t receive when chasing the ââ¬Å"American dream.â⬠She also subtly pulls out subconscious feelings including his innate desire to be someone else and a member of a superior class, hinting at his own insecurity. Furthermore, Highsmith shows us that Tom Ripley is driven by emotion just as much as materialism, emphasizing his desire to be loved and his tragic past. Overall, Highsmith shows the readers three main drivers of Ripleyââ¬â¢s campaign to change his life; His value of materialistic objects, his subconscious value of a higher class, and his emotional value and vulnerability. Perhaps the clearest driver of Tom Ripley throughout his campaign, is that of his chase for Materialistic objects, that he believes are the markers of a good life. As an American, he glimpses the realization of the American Dreamââ¬âfinancial success and happinessââ¬âderived from the erasure of an old identity and construction of a new one through Dickieââ¬â¢s success in Europe and this ultimately drives him to transform his life. When Tom first meets with Mr Greenleaf he subconsciously compares himself to Dickie, thinking about ââ¬Å"An income, a house, a boat.â⬠as the markers of having ââ¬Å"the time of his life.â⬠This comparison between himself and Dickie simply centers on the materialistic possessions that each of them have and shows Tomââ¬â¢s fixation on possessions as a major drive. After murdering Dickie, Tom immediately takes items of money-oriented value. He takes ââ¬Å"Dickies silver lighter, a pencil stub, the alligator wallet and several littl e cards.â⬠As he then debates when to go after the murder, he decides not to go to Paris so he can see to see about Dickies belongings.â⬠On the train back, he envisions ââ¬Å"the pleasures that lay before him now with Dickies money, other beds, tables, seas, ships, suitcases,â⬠and other items that are symbols of the American dream that he has been chasing. From these quotes, it appears that one of the reasons for Dickieââ¬â¢s death and subsequent alteration to Tomââ¬â¢s life, was so he could become reach the level of ââ¬Å"successâ⬠that Dickie had through possession of Dickieââ¬â¢s objects. A final look at Ripleyââ¬â¢s chase of possessions is when he risks his entire escapade, simply to forge a letter and take Dickieââ¬â¢s, he ââ¬Å"leaves his income and possessionsâ⬠to himself. This final section of the novel caps of with Ripley thinking of ââ¬Å"Dickieââ¬â¢s moneyâ⬠which he relates to ââ¬Å"freedomâ⬠, capping of Tomâ⠬â¢s relationship between money and the value of materialistic objects. Overall, Highsmith uses Tomââ¬â¢s apparent fascination with possessions rather than human connections to show this as a major driver for him to change his life; a look perhaps at Highsmithââ¬â¢s criticism of the American dream and its impact on those who it fails. Another powerful motivator of Ripley, from the very beginning of the novel, is that of his value for class and from this his desire to escape from his own insecurities. Ripley begins the novel, ââ¬Å"living week to week, dodging cops for the first time in his lifeâ⬠and being low in the class system which is part of the reason he makes the move to change his life. We learn of his disgust, at his ââ¬Å"lousy friendsâ⬠and despite the fact that he is one of them, he is ecstatic at the idea of saying ââ¬Å"Good-bye to all the second-rate people he had hung around and had let hang around him.â⬠Highsmith clearly illustrates to the audience Ripleyââ¬â¢s motivation to ââ¬Å"begin a new lifeâ⬠free from ââ¬Å"past mistakes.â⬠When Ripley then begins his travel to Europe he rejoices from the fact that he will receive no more ââ¬Å"piddling cheques for the strange sums of six dollars and forty-eight cents and twelve dollars and ninety-fiveâ⬠which furthe r symbolizes his want to climb the social ladder. Then when Ripley kills Dickie, Highsmith orchestrates his first action as taking ââ¬Å"Dickies green ringâ⬠. A signet ring is symbolic of an identity and usually used to indicate class and hence this ring is used by Highsmith as a motif to show the killing of Dickie as a move by Ripley to move up the class structure. Towards the end of the novel, when Tom invites Marge to lunch, she expresses shock at how quickly Tom climbed up the social rankings, asking ââ¬Å"is this all this yours? in response to ââ¬Å"the high coffered ceiling.â⬠A little bit later, Marge appears to be ââ¬Å"dazzled.â⬠This section of the novel serves to show that Tom Ripleyââ¬â¢s motivation and driver to change his life appears to be his past life of ââ¬Å"second-rate peopleâ⬠and his desire to become something more. Overall, Highsmith uses small moments within the novel and symbolism with motifs such as the rings to point the reader towards class as a major compeller towards Ripleyââ¬â¢s obsession to radically change his life. Perhaps the core driver that Highsmith accentuates during the beginning of the novel is Tomââ¬â¢s emotional vulnerability crafted from his tragic past and ultimately his desire to be loved. Before Tom departs to Europe, we learn that ââ¬Å"his parents had drowned in Boston Harbourâ⬠and that he grew up with an abusive aunt who called him ââ¬Å"a sissy from the ground up.â⬠The fact that he grows up without parents and with no apparent close relationships builds the groundwork for his desire to build connections and change his life. When Tom is about to depart, he remarks to Cleo that ââ¬Å"heââ¬â¢s [Mr Greenleaf] really adopted me like a son.â⬠When he gets the bon voyage basket, Tom begins to ââ¬Å"sobâ⬠feeling for the first time the connection that he so desperately seeks. Despite the fact that all Mr Greenleaf has done was paid him for a trip to Europe, Tomââ¬â¢s overreaction shows us his emotional vulnerability and his desire to be loved. This mo tivation is also experienced as we watch Tomââ¬â¢s connection to Dickie. As soon as Dickie begins to sour towards Tom and their relationship, Tom realizes that ââ¬Å"they were not friendsâ⬠and that from this he feels a ââ¬Å"painful wrench.â⬠He Speaks of ââ¬Å"a shock of his realization which seemed more than he could bearâ⬠and tells Dickie that he ââ¬Å"wants to die.â⬠This final admission before he kills Dickie, shows the reader that if Tom does not receive his personal connection that motivated him to move to Europe, then, he would have to kill Dickie and assume his relationships and standings. Overall, Highsmith uses Tomââ¬â¢s tragic past and fragile connection with Dickie to show the audience how Tom is driven by his emotional vulnerabilities and lack of love and human connection. Thus, Highsmith paints Tomââ¬â¢s venture to change his life as a split between three main motivators, his chase for materialistic possessions, his subconscious and conscious envy of higher classes and his emotional vulnerability and lack of family connection. Through these three contributors Tom begins his trail of murder and deceit, simply in an attempt to improve his own life. Overall, The talented Mr Ripley, is used by Highsmith and her clever characterization of Tom Ripley as the failure of the American dream and the impacts that following your motivations can lead to if they are followed without restraint.
